Proper eating habits can help reduce illnesses linked to nutrition while helping you stay healthy.
With the arrival of summer, we tend to have more cold meals, brunches, breakfast at terraces, etc. However, be careful not to make mistakes that could lead to unbalanced meals! Summer is the ideal season for organizing meals out: dinner with friends, last minute restaurant, etc. Don't forget though that the best cuisine is your own!
Here are some tools for following good habits throughout the year!
Fill your freezer and refrigerator intelligently, in order to avoid turning a package of chips or even leftover pizza into lunch.
Keep supplies of frozen food. Use our cutting boards to create individual dishes: cut squash, finely sliced mushrooms, fine herbs, meats, fish, etc. The advantage of frozen food is that it allows you to use the amount you need and put back the rest. As for nutrition, freezing preserves the vitamins and minerals.
Take advantage of summer by making marinades for your meats! Make your own marinade and place it in a container. Use a container that won't react to the marinade's acidity. Choose >glass containers or porcelain containers.
Manage your purchases of fresh products daily. You'll have fun as you wander through markets and small stores. The products you'll find are more appetizing than at the supermarket, and why not ask the advice of butchers and fishmongers for meal ideas!
Summer is synonymous with heat, which doesn't necessarily stimulate hunger! One solution is to eat cold or even iced dishes. Use Trudeau salad bowls, jelly dishes and try ice creams and sorbets.
Activities around the barbecue are also a favourite. Meats and fish are part of summer fun. Use the Trudeau BBQ tools to make your meal-making easier!
It is important to keep hydrated during the summer, before you're thirsty! Did you know that once you feel thirsty it means that you're already dehydrated?
It is generally recommended that you drink 1.5 L of water per day. As for mealtime, it is usually just at the end of the meal that you drink cool water sometimes with a bit of lemon juice added or mint leaves, or even with green tea served piping hot. It is the most pleasing and effective drink during the scorching heat.
Nothing could be better for serving drinks than double-walled glassware, which maintains either the heat or coolness of the liquid.
When it's hot, it's good to start the meal with raw vegetables and salads. Refreshing and light, they are always a welcome addition to a meal.
Serve carrots, radishes, celery stalks, etc., served sliced or as sticks, they can be eaten with a dip made with cottage cheese, lemon juice and fine herbs. It's original and is sure to be a hit! Don't forget the presentation.
Make sure you show off your table presentation with an original dishware set. Why not serve iced soups? Gazpacho, cucumber soup or a cold watercress velouté are all excellent choices.
Of course, ice creams and sorbets are all the rage in the summer. Here's a tip: try the ice cream or sorbet accompanied by a fruit salad. Mmm... delicious and refreshing!
Take advantage of summer by trying out your own ice cream sandwiches !
Summer is the perfect time for last-minute get-togethers. For the decorations, why not try fun, colourful and tasty ice cubes - an eye-catcher at your summer cocktail parties.
For example, you could:
You could also try your hand at making your own healthy slush. All you have to do is add crushed ice and lemon juice to a smooth, slightly-diluted fruit purée. Place exotic fruit, like kiwi, mango, papaya or pineapple at the bottom of each glass and top off your drink with a cinnamon stick, mint leaves or a slice of star fruit.
